Art Musings No. 9

I immediately thought of this passage by Leonardo DaVinci when I saw the side of this building. “Look at certain walls dirtied with various stains or with a mixture of different kinds of stones. If you have to invent some scene you will be able to see in them a resemblance to various landscapes adorned with mountains, rivers, rocks, trees, plains, wide valleys and hills. You will also be able to see various battles and figures in quick movements, and strange expressions on faces, and costumes, and an infinite number of things which you can then reduce into separate, well-conceived form. With such walls and mixtures of different stones the same thing happens as it does with the sound of bells, in whose pealing you may discover every name and word that you can imagine.” For me, I see a rider pulled by a team of horses. Is this art? You decide.

Note: The image is of an ivy covered side of a building on 125 street in NYC. Is this art? You decide.
